Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join an innovative multi-disciplinary Outpatient Nutrition Support Service. As a metabolic specialist, this role establishes nutrition care plans for challenging patients receiving home enteral or parenteral nutrition including consultation on metabolic demands, disease state and treatment. Interfaces with the patient through clinic visits and telephone contacts. This role works in conjunction with the Nurse Practitioner to ensure that optimal and appropriate specialized nutrition support is provided in the outpatient setting. Also acts as a specialist for inpatients preparing to discharge on TPN for case management, discharge planning, and education for patients, Accountable for TPN order writing,education, and tapering to nocturnal schedules prior to discharge. The Nutrition Support dietitian works with a high degree of professional autonomy and participates in research and department continuous improvement projects to improve outcomes.

Essential Job Duties

  • 1. Completes and documents specialized nutrition assessment.
  • 2. Completes and documents nutrition diagnosis in the specialty area.
  • 3. Identifies and implements appropriate nutrition interventions including quality nutrition education based on customer needs, expectations, and culture.
  • 4. Monitors and evaluates individual patient nutrition outcomes related to nutrition diagnosis, goals, and interventions in the specialty area.
  • 5. Communicates nutrition expertise with all appropriate healthcare providers.
  • 6. Uses resources effectively and efficiently in practice.
  • 7. Mentors staff and students.
  • 8. Participates in department continuous quality improvement projects, strategic plans, and initiatives.
  • 9. Works with a moderate degree of professional autonomy and independent practice using diagnostic reasoning skills.
  • 10. Applies research to improve patient outcomes.
  • Note: If employee is hired without being a Certified Dietitian (or Licensed Dietitian if working in Idaho), they must become certified or licensed within two months of hire to remain in the job.

  • Entry Rate: DOE
  • Benefits Eligible: Yes
  • Shift Details: Monday through Friday 830AM-430PM, rotating weekends on call coverage
  • May be hired as a Dietitian I or II depending on minimum requirements

Dietitian I - Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in dietetics, nutrition, or nutrition related field. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified.
  • Registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • Food handler's permit (as required by facility).
  • 4,000 hours of work experience in specialty area,or 2,000 hours of experience and credentialed specialty certification such as CSG, CSO, CSSD, CNSC, CSP, CSR, CDE, CSOWM. (Note that "Certificates of Training" do not meet this requirement).
  • Successful completion of an approved Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) program.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency.
  • Certified Dietitian (State of Utah) or Licensed Dietitian (State of Idaho) obtained within two months of hire (see note above).

Dietitian II - Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or nutrition related field. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified.
  • Registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • Food handler's permit (as required by facility).
  • Successful completion of an approved Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) program.
  • 8,000 hours of work experience in specialty area, and credentialed specialty certification such as CSG, CSO, CSSD, CNSC, CSP, CSR, CDE, CSOWM. (Note that "Certificates of Training" do not meet this requirement).
  • Certified Dietitian (State of Utah) or Licensed Dietitian (State of Idaho) obtained within two months of hire (see note above).
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated skill, knowledge, and competence in specialty area.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency.

Dietitian I and II - Preferred Requirements

  • Master's degree in dietetics, nutrition, or specialty area. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified.

Physical Requirements

  • Interact with patients and co-workers requiring the employee to verbally communicate information, as well as understand spoken information.
  • See and read labels, monitors, and documents.
  • Operate computers and other equipment requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.
  • Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer, telephone, or other equipment.
